Art Crit

An important component of instruction is assessment but that may look very different in art. A formal art critique gives children the forum to demonstrate their understanding of the assignment, learn how to explain why they like or dislike something, and take and give appropriate feedback.

I was unsure of how a critique would look with kindergarteners but I was extremely impressed. They were excited to have the power to call on their classmates. As the crit continued students ran the class, asking and responding to questions and feedback about their artwork.

Students got out of their seats to point to specific details on their classmates paintings!
